Dr. Stephanie Osinchuk

Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist (DACVO)

If you’re looking for excellence, kindness, and compassion then you have come to the right place. Dr. Stephanie Osinchuk has achieved the highest level of veterinary ophthalmology specialization, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (abvo.us), and is the only Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist on Vancouver Island (https://www.acvo.org/ophthalmologist-search). She received both her DVM and MSc (veterinary ophthalmology) from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM).

Following her residency she worked as ophthalmology faculty training the next generation of veterinarians at the WCVM before starting the Island Veterinary Eye Specialist clinic. She has presented ophthalmology research at several world class research conventions including ACVO and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. She has published peer reviewed scientific articles on cataracts, retinal disease, neurophthalmology, and corneal disease.

She enthusiastically  contributes to the ophthalmology and veterinary community. She serves as a reviewer for the scientific journals Veterinary Ophthalmology, Canadian Veterinary Journal, and the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association. She is an examiner for the foreign graduates for the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, and volunteers on the American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmology Residency training committee.

Stephanie grew up on a hobby farm and has loved helping animals from a young age. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, two young children, and their beloved dogs Georgia Peach and Delilah. She looks forward to welcoming you and your pet to our clinic family.

Carolyn, RVT

Registered Veterinary Technician

Carolyn began her career nearly a decade and a half ago when she graduated with distinction in 2007 from the Veterinary Technician Program at Georgian College in Orillia, Ontario.  Carolyn has done it all; she started off in emergency medicine, then found her niche within the referral setting. She spent 7 years working under a Veterinary Ophthalmologist in Toronto before taking on a position with the Anesthesia department at the University of Guelph - Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). She worked under the anesthesiologists at the OVC for several years developing advanced anesthesia skills. She has  managed anesthesia for surgeries of the heart, lungs, spinal cord, limbs, and eyes!   The diverse caseload at OVC enabled her to learn a specialized skill set and provide daily hands on teaching to our future veterinarians. Although this career path was rewarding, Carolyn always envisioned being out West, and when an opportunity came up - she pursued it!!! She spearheaded the surgery service at the Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital before joining Island Veterinary Eye Specialist.
Carolyn cares deeply about her patients and is looking forward to taking the utmost care of your pet. When not in the clinic, you may find Carolyn doing anything outdoors with her husband David and two young daughters. She also shares her home with her Rhodesian Ridgeback
Atlas, her rescue Lab-X Athena, her sweet rescue kitty named Blizzard, and her blind bird Mango.
